How Ember works

How a day changes on the calendar, and who can see a note. Kept days have another way in. The files can come with you.

A day

One Friday, from the plan before it to the day you keep.

  1. Warming. A day still ahead with something on it. A place and a time, or one word you fill in later.

    The plan said

    Ralph

7:00 at Wabi House. I tried to pick a place and you said, "How about here?"

  2. Glowing. The day has been and gone, and nobody has written it up. It sits there as long as you like.

    The story

    Nothing written yet. It waits.

  3. Ember. A photo, a few words, or a voice note, and the day is banked. The product is named for this part.

We saw each other instantly as you walked in, even though it was pretty crowded.

The chip changes as the day does. Nobody presses anything to make that happen.

More days

Once a mantel has a stretch of days, there are other ways in than the calendar.

Take them with you

Who holds an invite, what an export is made of, and the 30 days after a douse.

The only way onto a mantel is an invite you sent. You can take that invite back.

An export is a zip, or a few if the mantel is large: a folder per day, holding your original photo and video files at the size you uploaded them, and the writing as a Markdown file you can open in anything.

Douse a memory or close your account and you have 30 days to change your mind. Ember lists what goes before you confirm, and keeps no copy after.

No cap on how many memories, photos, or videos a mantel can hold.
