# A screen in the room

A spare screen showing your own photos, and a card you can send.

## How it works

Ember Frame holds each day for twenty seconds with the place and the date under it. It needs no account signed in on the screen it runs on.

You pick what it draws from: favorites, one hearth, a stretch of dates, or everything kept. A single photo or a whole memory can be held back from it without being hidden anywhere else.

## Postcards

A postcard lays one memory, or a whole hearth, out as a card with a front and a back you can write on. Keep it, or send the file to somebody.

## The song on a day

**The song on a day.** One track attached to a memory, and to its postcard.

A memory can carry a song. It shows on the day and on the postcard made from it, so whatever was playing stays attached to the day rather than to a playlist somewhere else.

## Covered until someone reveals it

**Sensitive.** A photo or a line that stays covered until it is asked for.

Marking a photo or a piece of writing sensitive leaves it covered: color only, no picture loaded, until whoever is looking chooses to reveal it. The reveal lasts for that browser session and nothing longer.

A screen in a room is not always a private one, so Ember Frame skips a covered photo entirely rather than covering it there.

## A code on the screen

**Pair.** A six digit code on the screen, typed into your phone.

Open Ember on the screen you want to use and it shows a six digit code. Type that into your phone and the screen starts playing. The screen never signs in.

It never holds an account. You don't type a password into that screen.

## Cast to a Chromecast

**Cast.** Cast from your phone instead of pairing a code.

If the TV has a Chromecast, you can cast to it from your phone instead of pairing a code.

## Where the photos come from

**What it plays.** Favorites, a hearth, a stretch of dates, or everything kept.

You pick the pool: favorites, one hearth, a range of dates, or every kept day. You set how long a photo holds, from a few seconds to a couple of minutes.

Order can be oldest first, at random, or the same widening walk Wander takes, which favors what you have not seen lately.

Under each photo you can show the title, the date, the place, who added it, or nothing.

## Hold one back

**Keep off the frame.** One photo or one memory, left off Frame.

Any photo or any whole memory can be held back from Frame without being hidden anywhere else. It stays on the calendar, on the map, and in search. It never plays on Ember Frame.

## What it doesn't do

Ember Frame never shows a memory that's private or faded, and it needs no account on the screen it runs on.

Ember doesn't print or mail anything for you.
